Kitchen and adjoining dining room

My client had chosen the style and layout of her kitchen but brought me in to help decide on colours, worktops, tiling and the décor of the adjoining dining room.

Keen to ensure the kitchen was not glossy, nor felt ‘too kitchen-y’, the aim was to incorporate interesting lighting and display areas for a collection of beloved ceramics, kitchenalia and artwork.

The dining area also worked hard as a through room and feeding/napping area for the resident Greyhound.

We incorporated bespoke open display shelving in the kitchen area, which was painted in a warm white to compliment the soft grey/green of the cabinets.

A shaker style peg rail with shelf was designed to cover the length of the two walls in the dining room.  This is both a practical solution, to house bags and aprons, etc. It is also decorative, to display art and ceramics.  The soft blue colour was chosen to cover three quarters of the wall. This retained the light bright feel that the client desired, whilst also offering the practicality of a darker, wipeable colour below to cope with daily wear and tear.

Testimonial

"Janine helped me to feel confident in my tastes and choices and go bolder with patterned tiles and anglepoise lamps in the kitchen.  I would never have thought of the shaker peg rail in the dining room, but it has given me a practical, yet beautiful solution. I like it so much I replicated it in my hallway.  Working with Janine was really enjoyable as I never felt I was being ‘told’ how to incorporate ideas, they evolved naturally from our discussions and I valued this way of working."
